Medicine Wheel Exploration, a workshop with Kaylaira Lea

WHEN:  Sunday July 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.   (with an hour for lunch from 12:30-1:30 ) NOTE: This workshop will take place inside during the morning and outside after the lunch break.

WHERE:   At Main & Station, Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, B0M 1S0

WHAT:   The Medicine Wheel symbolizes the interconnection of all life.  This workshop investigates the balance between emotions (South), physical (West), mental (North), and spiritual (East).  Exploration of the four points of the compass will take place through meditation, movement, drawing and creation of a personal Medicine Wheel on the earth.

INSTRUCTOR: Kaylaira Lea

unnamedKaylaira is a wilderness-bred Mover and Sounder, who from a young age learned to sense the myriad of energies converging and shifting in nature – the fabled woods and dunes along the shores of the Great Lakes in Canada. She understood that we are not separate from the natural world, but part of it. Her love of the wilderness combined with her need to dance inspired Kaylaira to find ways to touch our own personal wilderness through movement, breath and sound to reach a deeper and richly authentic part inside of ourselves.

Kaylaira’s teachings are based on her studies with prominent Movement/Sound/Breath Explorers: Pauline Oliveros (Deep Listening Institute), Emilie Conrad (Continuum Movement), Tom Kenyon (Sound Healer), Master Sha (Healer), Dennis Lewis (Breath Practitioner), Karen Montanaro (Mime Artist), Elisa Lodge (Primal Energetics), Hank Wesselman (Anthropologist and Shaman), John English (Shaman), John-Luke Edwards (Shaman),  Zacciah Blackburn (sound healer, Shaman), as well as Butoh Masers Yoshito Ohno, Diego Pinon and Shinichi lova-Koga.

Kaylaira also has a visual arts degree from Kansas City Art Institute, training and career as a filmmaker in Toronto, training and work in metal sculpture, and several years as a dance-theatre choreographer and director.
