Conrad Byers was a story-teller and schooner captain born in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia where he stayed most of his life. The poems in this collection date from early years when he chose travel over the choppy seas of marriage, jotting shanties on any available paper to ward off cultural shock and loneliness.
Conrad was passionate about Parrsboro and especially about the history of the region, of boatbuilding and sailing, and of daily life. He amassed a considerable archive of photographs and books which have been donated to another of his great passions,The Ottawa House Museum operated by the Parrsborough Shore Historical Society.
