L’exposition des finalistes pour les prix d’excellence Nonesuch pour les arts papier ouvrira à Montréal le vendredi 1 décembre. L’exposition montrera quelques-unes des nombreuses façons de créer de l’art sur ou avec du papier.

Il y aura une réception ~ vernissage le samedi, 2 décembre de 13h à 17h à 141 rue Ann (Griffintown, Montréal). L’exposition restera à Montréal jusqu’au 16 décembre.  Il y aura une réception ~ finissage le samedi, 16 décembre de 17h à 21h.  Les lauréats seront annoncés pendant le finissage.

L’entrée est gratuite / par donation

Cette année, il y a eu plus de 220 soumissions de 16 pays, dont 131 provenant du Canada avec 51 de la région maritime et 68 du Québec. Les expositions montrent plus de 80 œuvres d’artistes en Argentine, Australie, Belgique, Canada, Colombie, Allemagne, Israël, Italie, Japon, Nouvelle-Zélande, Pologne, Suisse et États-Unis.

Six prix seront décernés: quatre sélectionnés par le jury et deux prix public, les prix Wellington Church, sélectionnées par le vote des visiteurs lors des expositions de Parrsboro et de Montréal.

Le catalogue de 8.5 x 11″ à 65 pages qui inclut des photographies et une description de chaque œuvre acceptée pour les expositions, ainsi que des biographies courtes d’artistes. The Nonesuch Art Of Paper Awards exhibition in Montreal will open on Friday, 1 December. The exhibition of finalists will show some of the many ways of creating art on or with paper.

There is an opening reception ~ vernissage on Saturday, 2 December from 1pm to 5pm at 141 rue Ann (Griffintown, Montreal).  The exhibition will remain in Montreal until 16 December.  There will be a closing reception / finissage on Saturday, 16 December from 5pm to 9pm. The award recipients will be announced during the closing reception.

Admission is free / by donation.

This year there were over 220 submissions from 16 countries, 131 of these from Canada with 51 from the maritime region and 68 from Quebec.  The exhibitions include more than 80 works from artists in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Poland, Switzerland, and the United States.

Six awards will be given: four selected by jury and two people’s choice awards, the Wellington Church awards, selected by visitor voting during the Parrsboro and Montreal exhibitions.

Writer in residence: Ian Ferrier

Main & Station is very pleased that writer and performer Ian Ferrier is once again in Parrsboro for a writer’s residency.  You might remember Ian from one of his previous residences: he has taught several writing workshops here and in 2013 he came here with For Body and Light, a contemporary dance company directed by choreographer Stéphanie Morin-Robert and, on that occasion, featuring the dancers Linnea Gwiazda, Marie-Pier Gilbert, and Marie-France Jacques.

At the end of their residency, For Body and Light wowed Parrsborians with their first performance of Coming and Going in our secondfloor gallery. The dance-music-poetry performance was created during the previous weeks while in residence at Main & Station and was inspired by the local environment and lore and especially by the tides coming and going in the Minas Basin.  Since that time the company has taken Coming and Going across Canada and to New York City. They have also created and performed several other works, including Bear Dreams which they worked on while Nonesuch artists in residence at Techno-Lith (New City Gas) in Montreal.  Ian has now also published books based on these performance works, Coming and Going & Bear Dreams.

The books are available for purchase at Main & Station.

While in Parrsboro Ian is working on a documentary about the wild paper pickers of Minas Basin.

A Vegan Supper Party

We are delighted to announce an opportunity to meet Sydney Humble and Dylan Nickolet and to sample their culinary creations…

Both from Saskatoon, the young couple are avid explorers who spent last winter travelling the world.  This year they have chosen to travel around their own country and drove here at the beginning of the month in order to spend a few months in Parrsboro before going to Montreal where Sydney will be commencing a program of study at Concordia University in January.  A visual artist, Dylan is making good use fo his time here to draw and create every day. He has also worked several years in kitchens and loves creating and cooking wholesome food for himself and loved ones.

Join us on Sunday 22 October at 5pm in the Nonesuch Café.
